Dragonfly

This was one of several dragonflies that I found skirting among the flowers in a park in Spokane, WA in the summer of 2011. I used my Nikon D80 with a 300mm lens, without vibration reduction, and I was surprised how much detail I got out of such an inexpensive lens.

Picture Frame Falls

Too much snow in August forced me to lower elevations for waterfall photography.
Taken with a Pentax K-5 with a ND8 and polarizer for a few seconds.
This is a single image, not a HDR.

Crowds

This image was taken in the fall from a viewing platform that overlooks Hong Kong.

There’s a little bit of haze in the air. At night there are light shows between the Kowloon buildings (far side of the water) and those on Hong Kong Island itself. Some of the beams can be seen in the upper right quadrant of the photo. The population density really comes out at night as the buildings are lit up, and this is the reason for the title.

Technical details: Taken with a Pentax K-7 SLR and Sigma 18-50 F 2.8 lens at 20mm, F 2.8, 1/13 Second shutter speed, ISO 1600, -1.7 EV (otherwise the lights blow out the image), handheld.
